Come Into My Parlour...

Here are two recent studio visitors. Actually I think the spider lives here. Well, loads do and they go about their business decorating the upper reaches of the room with their handiwork. I think we're going for that Miss Havisham look. The moth is a ‘fly-in’. I think it’s a Privet Hawkmoth. Quite big and impressive. And absolutely harmless. Just curious for a look around to see what’s what. One of the things I love are the small moments when people and wildlife overlap in a harmonious manner. We’re so lucky in Britain that everything that lives out there is benign. Nothing wants to hurt us. I only wish we would treat nature with a little reciprocal respect.

And here’s two art spiders. One by me for Insectopedia and the other by Odilon Redon, whose work I like very much.

And a little tune to go with: Wire's Blessed State.

  1. Oh,'kin 'ell! Once again! When I see/read things like this I just don't know what to say because I have so much to say! I think I just have to summarise (not easy for me) and simply announce, "my thoughts exactly"! Also - interesting to hear Wire; Pink Flag was one of the first albums I had and I saw them live at Harlow College ('78?)but I never heard much later stuff. Thanks for making me smile.

  2. I guess we'll just have to agree to not differ.
(Don't worry, I'll do a post about football or something next...)

  3. I'm almost reluctant to add this, but I'm sure C3 played at Harlow College too (1978/79?). (If only I still had my satin roadie's bomber-jacket with all the tour dates on the back - then I'd know for sure...)

  4. By way of nothing really, but did you by any chance know a pub/drinking den in the Essex/Herts region known as 'Sid's'?

  5. Maybe I did see C3 after all...?! The only other bands I remember seeing there were the Modettes and the Pretenders but I can't recall who supported them...
Sorry no memory of 'Sid's' either.
As for topics of common interest it's really heartening to share them and I'm glad we found eachother's blogs. I love it when people give spiders some good PR too, they get such a rough deal in life!

  6. I never went to Sid's either. Just heard stories about it. Perhaps it never really existed. A sort of Essex El Dorado...

  7. Hmmmm... 'Essex El Dorado'... was that not some trashy soap opera about footballers' wives in Spain...?

  8. Hmm I asked for that didn't I?
